3,750 Jobs for Kansas

The Kansas City Assembly Plant is the fourth North American facility Ford is retooling for production of new vehicles that are at the heart of an increasingly balanced lineup of cars, trucks and utilities. In December Ford announced it was investing $600 million in a Louisville, Ky. plant to build the next-generation Escape there, adding 1,800 jobs. At the Detroit Auto Show earlier this month, Ford announced plans to add 7,000 jobs by the end of 2012, including, in addition to factory workers, 750 engineers who will work on new vehicle technologies. Ford worked with Missouri’s governor, Jay Nixon, and the Missouri state legislature to craft a package of tax incentives for auto manufacturing in the state, Ford said in its announcement. | Source: http://bit.ly/f3Y25U

100 Jobs for OH

Steris Corp., which makes medical products and equipment, is hiring 100 people for a variety of jobs…All the positions will be at the company’s $11 million Customer Solutions Center under construction in Mentor. The 55,000-square-foot facility will enable collaborative design and development of hospital and ambulatory surgery center projects, as well as future product development. The center will lead to about 300 new positions at Steris’ headquarters. The company employs about 800 people in Mentor and 5,000 worldwide. Steris will transfer about 200 positions from Erie, Pa., to Mentor, but about half of the employees in those jobs have decided against commuting or moving to Northeast Ohio, so the jobs are being filled here. | Source: http://bit.ly/fCzYoQ

650 Jobs for MI

U.S. automaker General Motors Co. is expected to add 650 jobs at a truck plant in Flint, Mich., sources told The Detroit News. The plan is to add a third shift to the plant that builds Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra trucks, taking advantage of $35 million in plant investments the company has made since 2008. Neither the company nor Michigan Gov. 600 Jobs for AK

Fort Smith will gain about 600 new jobs at an inbound call center to be located at the north end of the former Phoenix Village Mall. Initial hiring will start in March, according to a news release from FSM Redevelopment Partners. FSM owns the mall property, and a little more than a year ago opened the 115,000-square-foot Phoenix Expo Trade & Event Center there in a retail space formerly occupied by Atwoods. Lance Beaty, FSM manager, stated in the release that the call center to be operated by Sykes Enterprises will have a payroll of about $10 million. A provider of logistics services to the plastics industry plans to locate a new warehouse and transfer facility in Montgomery County. The move by Frontier Logistics will create 71 new jobs as the company invests $5.15 million in the project over the next five years. Gov. 12,000 Jobs for the USA

Shown today at the Detroit auto show, the navy blue four-door sedan was introduced by five jumping steel drum players who pounded furiously just before the sedan rolled out on a trail of smoke. The car will sell for $20,000 and will get an estimated 43 miles per gallon. It will be built at a new $1-billion plant in Chattanooga, Tenn. And Volkswagen will create 12,000 new jobs in the U.S. – 2,000 at the plant and 10,000 spin-off supplier jobs across the country, said Jonathan Browning, CEO and president of Volkswagen of North America. In Rock County, the St. Mary’s Hospital in Janesville is one year away from becoming a reality. Officials have said that the new hospital will create 350 new jobs on the city’s East Side. The 55-bed hospital is scheduled to open in January of 2012. The building hasn’t even been completed, but the hospital has already begun hiring. Nokia Siemens Networks intends to raise manpower at its Global Network Solutions Center (GNSC) in Chennai to 1,800 from 1,000 by December 2011 to fulfill the increasing demand. Nokia Siemens also declared the development of the center by transfering activities to a larger facility at Navalur, near Chennai. In 2007 the center has set up with around 120 employees. BUDGET hotel chain Travelodge is building 35 hotels this year and creating 700 jobs in the UK. The company has no plans to build any hotels in this region, but is spending £300m to boost its portfolio to 495 hotels. The construction phase of the redevelopment of Galway Harbour will create more than 500 jobs in Galway city, according to a city councillor and former board member of Galway Harbour Company. The €50 million plans for the first stage of the ambitious redevelopment of the city’s docklands go on public display today to allow the public to make submissions on the proposals, which will facilitate the berthing of cruise liners in Galway. Tesco is opening a new £20m home-delivery hub in north London, creating 550 logistics jobs. The construction of the 152,000ft2 e-commerce DC in Enfield is scheduled to be completed by the end of March. It will then be fitted out to service internet shopping orders and deliveries across North London and Hertfordshire. It is expected to be operational by the end of the year. US-based firm Quest Software is to expand its Irish operations, creating 150 jobs in Cork over the next three years with the opening of a new shared services centre at Mahon. Quest Software designs, develops and supports enterprise systems and network management software products. The new centre, which will open later this month, will cover finance, software renewals and software development. Contractors working in the UK’s renewable energy sector could be among those to benefit from a new manufacturing plant in Hull. Siemens, one of Europe’s leading engineering firms, has announced that the plant, which will build offshore wind turbines, could create up to 10,000 jobs. Valeo, one of the world’s leading automotive suppliers, has announced it is to create up to 100 new jobs at its operation in Tuam, Co Galway. The company plans to expand its manufacturing and research activities at its Valeo Vision Systems (VVS) plant and says the move is part of a €17m investment. According to Valeo the high skilled positions will be filled over the next three years. The investment which focuses on research, development and innovation (RD&I) and high value manufacturing, is supported by the Government through IDA Ireland. Valeo says it is undertaking this initiative to target a growing share of the camera market with the development of the next generation of new camera/vision systems and supporting technologies for vehicle parking and manoeuvring.
