40 Hires for Washington, D.C.
Now, we have learned that Facebook signed a lease in downtown Washington to occupy an 8,600 square foot office. This new space can potentially hold 30 to 40 people. According to The Washington Post, Facebook spokesman Andrew Noyes said in an email that the new office constituted “a long-term location that will fit our growing business needs.” He said the company will most likely move in April. It isn’t confirmed how many Facebook is officially planning on hiring, but they’ve been slowly and steadily staffing up. 200 Jobs for Longmont, CO
A new Walmart super center will open in Longmont early next year and the company plans to hire 200 workers. The Bentonville, Ark.-based retailer has opened a hiring center for the 206,930-square-foot center under construction. A North Carolina-based drug research company expects to bring 190 new, high-quality jobs toHenrico County over the next three years. PPD Inc., a global contract research organization, plans to invest $28 million to expand its Lab Services Division in Henrico during that time…PPD’s job postings frequently call for applicants to have college or graduate degrees in science or related fields. The average salary for these jobs should be higher than the region’s average wage, officials said. At $50,000 or more annually, McLaren said, “these are good-paying jobs.” “We’re beginning to feel a little bit optimistic that things are starting to turn around,” McLaren said. PPD employs about 225 to 250 people at its Henrico lab, McLaren said. The company is in line for $800,000 in state and county economic development incentives, based on delivering on the anticipated jobs and capital investment. Headquartered in Wilmington, N.C., PPD provides drug discovery, development and life-cycle management services. People living in the county say the new jobs will benefit their community, and Judge Executive Jack McCaslin says it will stabilize the economy. A West Michigan drug-maker is adding 100 white-collar jobs and is hiring right away. Allegan-based Perrigo says its business is growing despite the recession. The generic drug-maker says more people have been buying store brand over-the-counter medications. In addition to Tuesday’s jobs announcement, the company added 70 manufacturing jobs in recent months. West Michigan has been seeing a stronger recovery than the east side of the state, but the overall recovery is moving slowly…Perrigo’s announcement isn’t the only good piece of job news West Michigan has seen recently. Gentex in Zeeland is buying a manufacturing building in Holland and adding 240 jobs. Company leaders tell Newschannel 3 that the auto industry rebound is happening more quickly than expected. While you’re doing your holiday shopping, you might come across a company called Bambeco. The company is just two years old, but it’s growing quickly — so says CEO Susan Aplin, although she declined to disclose sales figures — and soon plans to call Baltimore home. I spoke with Aplin earlier this week from the company’s new headquarters in the Curtis Bay area of Baltimore. Hearth Grains Bakery LLC in Springboro — working for Klosterman Baking Co. Inc. — will get more than $5.5 million from the state of Ohio for a state-of-the-art production line, the state Department of Development said. The loan is from the Ohio Enterprise Bond Fund, and the project is expected to create 31 jobs, the state said. The baking line will be used for the production of flat-bread products, including sandwich thins and bagel thins , the department said. Bethany McCorkle, a spokeswoman for the Ohio Department of Development, said the Springboro location has 46 employees . An estimated 5,500 construction jobs and more than 2,400 mostly medical permanent full-time jobs will be created soon in San Joaquin County, where California is building its largest new prison in decades. Local contractors and trades workers have a crack at landing those relatively high-paying construction jobs, which will begin in spring. And the state is strategizing on how it will fill the medical positions the prison will create when it opens three years from now. The 1,722-bed prison, called the California Health Care Facility, will centralize the state’s care for inmates with significant physical and mental health care needs…Seven giant California construction firms are vying for the job, and they are being encouraged to hire local subcontractors and workers…The state estimates that 1,700 people per day will be put to work building the prison, which is south of Stockton near French Camp. Any member of Facebook’s HR department who happens to be based in Ireland is going to have a busy year ahead of him (or her). A new report’s indicated that Facebook intends to add 100 employees, thereby increasing the size of its Irish workforce by about 50 percent. 10,000 Jobs for India
Delhi is all set to become the first state in the country to start teacher recruitment as mandated by the Right to Free and Compulsory Education Act 2009. The education department has moved a proposal to recruit 10,000 teachers one of the largest-ever recruitment at one go in order to bring the teacher student ratio down to 35:1 as required in the Act. Though on paper Delhi’s ratio is already there, according to education minister Arvinder Singh, that includes teachers of music and physical education, which means effectively in the classroom that is not the ratio. “The real ratio stands at 40:1, which is the best in the country but we want to get better. The recruitment file is at present with the finance department. Though as per RTE the Centre will pay 50% of the salaries of these teachers, we are undertaking a huge spending exercise. 450 Jobs for the Isle of Wight
SUPERMARKET chain Asda has said it will create 450 new jobs on the Island when a new store that is due to built in Newport is completed in 2012. The UK grocers, which are owned by US retail giant Wal-Mart, is due to make an announcement on Friday via the Isle of Wight Council on the new location of the store believed to be on the outskirts of Newport. The Gazette has learnt that Councillor George Brown, deputy leader for the IW Council, has been at the forefront of negotiations to secure what is being described by one source as healthy capital for the land.
