6 Comedy Classics – Job-Related Video Clips

Finding a job can be a daunting prospect, but it doesn’t have to be all work and no play.

These six classic job-related video clips are perfect for when you need a break to refresh and rejuvenate. Consider them part of your job hunt research – you very well may learn something while you’re laughing!

“Get a Job”, from Brad Caslor

Brad Caslor’s 1985 out-of-print film, “Get a Job”, follows cartoon character Bob Dog as he looks for a job. Reminiscent of early Disney productions, and in homage to Bob Clampett and other animation of the 1940′s, this cartoon uses great visuals and upbeat music to tell the tale. If you’re not watching for it, you may not realize that flowing through the the story line is essentially a tutorial on job hunting, which outlines issues relating to self-motivation, creating a resume, contacting prospective employers, preparing for an interview, the interview itself, and, last but not least, the importance of networking to finding a job. Despite the educational slant, this is a favorite of ours because of the music and its entertainment value.

“Bad Things To Say At A Job Interview”, from Mock The Week

Mock The Week, BBC Two’s top-rated satirical comedy show, regales us with a panel of standup comedians who deliver lines you wouldn’t want to say at a job interview – a great refresher in case you thought any of these lines might work for you!

MADtv’s “Job Interview”

In the following clip from MADtv, a manager must deal with a wacky candidate who justifies her actions by playing the race card. The moral of the story? Even a disastrous job interview can result in a job offer, so do your best, remain confident and don’t give up!

“Job Interview”, from Monty Python

An evil interviewer from Monty Python’s Flying Circus confounds a job candidate, while pointing out the importance of investigating and knowing the company before you apply.

I Love Lucy’s “Candy Factory”

Once you’ve got a job, the rest is easy, right? In this hilarious episode from 1952, Lucy and Ethel think working outside the home has to be easier than doing housework, while Ricky and Fred think the opposite. So the guys volunteer to do the housework while Lucy and Ethel get jobs in a candy factory – and discover that holding onto a job is not as easy as it looks.

“Kramer Gets a Job”, from Seinfeld

This funny excerpt from a Seinfeld episode plays on Kramer’s reluctance to hold down a paying job while satirizing the effects a new job can have on close relationships. While volunteering can tell you a lot about what kind of work suits you, and whether or not you’re suited for it, we don’t recommend going about it quite the way Kramer does!

There must be hundreds of great job-related video clips out there. Please leave a comment and share your favorites with us.
