The Hidden Jobs Report
In an earlier post I wrote about ways to find hidden jobs and as I reflected on that earlier today, I thought it might be useful if I made a weekly report to help you guys out. I mean, if you want me to. Let me know if you find this data useful and how it could be more useful. For now, here is the first (of many?) hidden jobs reports.
If a company announces that they are planning to hire hundreds of people, why wait for the roles to hit the want-ads? I suggest networking with people in the company that is hiring enmasse now. Here are a few leads to get you started:

- 8.21.10 – Dow Kokam announced that it will use $161 million in stimulus money to develop an 80,000 square-foot battery manufacturing facility near its Midland, Michigan headquarters. This new plant will employ about 1,000 construction workers and then 800 people when complete.
- 8.21.10 – In Elkhart, Indiana, some hard-pressed gas-guzzling RV builders now plan to be manufacturing about 20,000 electric vehicles by 2013 for Norwegian-based Think motors. Think plans to invest $43.5 million improving and equipping its Elkhart plant, and expects to create more than 400 jobs in the area.
- 8.21.10 – Indianapolis-based EnerDel Inc. says that $118.5 million in federal stimulus money will enable it to double the size of its headquarters on the city’s northeast side. EnerDel will also soon employ up to 1,400 people manufacturing lithium-ion battery systems for electric and hybrid vehicles in Greenfield, Indiana. EnerDel and Ener1 Inc. plan to grow from 300 jobs today to 3,000 jobs or more by 2015.

A wonderfully useful post Jim. The hidden job report is a great idea. My day job is a retained headhunter. None of the assignments I work on are never advertised so by definition there are “hidden” from the market. Your encouragement for job-seekers to network with people working within the organisations that you list is spot on. Keep up the great work!
All the best, James, Sydney, Australia
James,
I appreciate your kind words!!!
Cheers,
Jim
Report is a great idea. Caveat: Firms have figured out that a positive jobs piece is the least expensive way to get Marketing/PR exposure in local TV news and print, and nobody in the press is out there watchdogging to see if these jobs actually materialize after the press release has done its work. Maybe you could follow up with one or two per report just to keep them honest. Thanks again.
I have learn several excellent stuff here. Definitely worth bookmarking for revisiting. I wonder how so much attempt you set to create this kind of excellent informative web site.
