  1. I don’t think most of us have anything to worry about. But a general word to the wise… whatever type of work that you do, make yourself invaluable. ALWAYS do more than your daily job routine. Find ways to streamline your department, increase sales, determine cost-saving measures to save your department or firm money on supplies, energy, advertising, etc. Come up with creative soltions to problems that CANNOT be solved by a robot.

  2. Our kids are really going to have to up their game when it comes to training for a future profession. I’m in a service industry where MOST people NEED human contact to enjoy exercise, to stay committed and accountable, and to be motivated by others who encourage & believe in them. I think it’s smart to use technology for many aspects of our lives, making some tedious work be more efficient. But robots can’t deal with people…. unless they are programed to relate an understand human emotion. I totally DISLIKE speaking with robots customer call centers…. Companies should dump those until robots learn to communicate with humans… although, humans yet haven’t mastered communicating with humans either.

  3. I have been known to stop doing business with companies that have only outsourced cheap customer service (Hello, my name is Peggy). And I skip over the recorded helpers and ask for a representative. So, no, this is not good news as far as I am concerned.

  4. Yes, robots can take over many jobs, but think of their poor bosses. It is hard to intimidate a robot.

  5. Wow, fascinating. Have you read Linchpin by Seth Godin? It really touches upon this point of standing out and making yourself indispensable (eg. you don’t want to be performing the job that anyone/a robot could perform).

  7. I think I may have spoken to a robot with an Indian accent last week when I called about my Visa bill. Not to worry, I couldn’t understand him and he couldn’t understand me.

  8. Very scary statistics. Thanks for sharing – this is such important info!
