Have A Blog? 3 Ways to Get It Noticed

You may have read here that having a blog can be beneficial factor in your job search (or career). In addition, you have been told here the reasons blogging are numerous and here on how to get started. Now that you have a one, or at least, want to start one – how do you get it read and noticed by those in the blogosphere?

Whether your blog is focused on your career field, major, or hobby, there are three ways to draw in readers while making connections with other bloggers. Consider these tips below:

Commenting. Much like being a guest blogger, commenting on other blogs can create awareness about you. Using links in your comments can redirect new readers to your site as well.

Use Social Media Forums. Both Twitter and LinkedIn are great for spreading your content – engage with the users in Twitter chats and LinkedIn groups.

Be A Guest Blogger. Writing a guest post for another related or well-known blog will you exposed to other readers and boost your credibility. For tips on how to create guest blog content see here.

Doing one or all of these tips can keep your blog focused, professional, and aid your personal brand.

  5. Great advice. The commenting is definitely a help. I’d also suggest commenting on blogs you’d like to potentially guest-blog for. Helps the owner get to know your voice before the offer is made.

  8. Great points and methods. I would also suggest staying active in forums related to your field of interest. By having a link to your blog in your signature section on the forums you will get traffic and subscribers as you remain active.

  13. Great post, from one Katie to another. Good tips but I just want to point out that if someone is going to write a blog that includes information from a past or current job, they should be careful what they say and keep in mind what the legal ramifications might be. Otherwise, I agree blogging is a great way to build a reputation and meet new people online.
